2021 Valentine’s Night in, with Romantic 3-Course Fondue Menu and Wine Pairings
Fondue for Valentine’s has been one of our traditions since the early days of our marriage. We pick one of our favorite romantic movies (usually Count of Monte Cristo or Chocolat) and enjoy our meal! We love Fondue so much, we actually have two of these amazing Cuisinart Fondue pots! Highly recommend the electric ones over the fuel/flame kind; much easier to control the temperature!
Course #1: Classic Swiss Fondue from Food & Wine Magazine…ohhh this one is so smooth & creamy! Our favorite things to dip in it: Sourdough Bread (locally made if possible, like from Sourdoughs of Somerset), roasted new potatoes & red pear slices.
Course #2: Meat! If you’re vegetarian, you can skip this…we are always plenty full between Course #1 and Dessert 😉 All you need: 1 32oz container of your favorite broth; Sirloin Tender Steak & Chicken Breast cut into 2″ cubes. We like to dip ours in a BBQ sauce and a mayo-based garlic aioli.
Wine pairing: Decoy Red Blend or La Crema or Sheep’s Clothing Cab.
Course #3: You can always skip Course #1 & #2 and go straight to dessert! LOL! Our favorite recipe is from Nigella Lawson and while it is called Toblerone Fondue…we actually make ours with a mix of dark chocolate & semi-sweet chocolate chips. Alcohol is optional 🙂 See recipe at the bottom of this post!
Of course, our #1 favorite thing to dip in chocolate is…marshmallows! This year, we were #gifted hand-made marshmallows from Bang Candy Company in Nashville! Y’all they are FABULOUS – so soft, fluffy and delicate with the lightest sweet taste. I can’t recommend them enough!
I’ve made homemade marshmallows before & they’re a pain; just leave it to the experts at Bang, to supply these amazing ones! They offer nationwide shipping & curbside pickup locally. Place your order by 2/10 for guaranteed delivery by Valentine’s.
Nigella Lawson’s Chocolate Fondue
- .5 lb semi-sweet chocolate chips
- .5 lb dark chocolate chips
- 1 c heavy cream
- 1/4 c milk
- If you prefer an adult-version; replace the milk with Amaretto – it's tasty!
Melt the chips, cream and milk together over low heat, stir continually until melted.
